Ten years ago I was a single mom to a sweet two year old boy and had just met Jake, my future husband. Jake stepped in to help raise my son Liam from the moment he met him. I could not have asked for a better Dad and role model for him, and looked forward to the day we could get married and grow our family.
After our wedding in 2016 we started trying for a baby with no luck. We were referred to a fertility clinic early on and began IUI followed by IVF. Multiple transfers led to multiple miscarriages and very much heartache. We had six embryos when we started and were down to our last two in 2019. Our “lowest rated” with the “least chance of survival”. That last embryo turned out to be a strong, hilarious, and sweet baby girl named Norah. The perfect addition to our family.
Hope for Fertility really stood out to me as an organization because they don’t overlook secondary infertility. Not being able to give my son a sibling and my husband the joy those first two years bring was an added layer of pain with infertility that I did not expect. Countless couples are turned down for grants due to already having a child, and being able to help them as well as acknowledge the pain of secondary infertility for others is so important to me. Liam and Norah’s relationship is an incredible one, even better than I dreamt of while we waited for her. Thank you Hope for Fertility for helping others make their dreams come true.
